Children come up with all sorts of wonderful behaviours along their development pathway, from hitting to hiding. Parents usually consult us if the behaviours don’t seem to be coming to an end quickly, or if they are very disruptive.

There can be many reasons why a set of behaviours is not ending quickly. Sometimes it has become sheer habit, or else the child perceives some sort of reward in what they are doing. At other times there may be family factors, anxiety, or a developmental issue which may be contributing.

If a behaviour causes stress to the family or disadvantage to the child and it doesn’t seem to be changing, a consultation is a good idea.  Our clinicians have seen most kinds or behaviours before – but there is always room for new ones!

Behaviour problems are the 2nd most common reason for children’s referrals to our practice.
