Structured Support for Families
Dr Jari Evertsz offers parent coaching sessions for families who would like structured support applying the principles and strategies outlined in The Well-Behaved Teenager (and Other Myths) to their own family life.
These sessions are designed for parents who are seeking a calm, thoughtful space to reflect on challenges, clarify responses, and consider practical ways forward using the ideas explored in the book.
Parent coaching is offered as an educational and support-focused service and is distinct from psychological assessment or therapy.
What parent coaching involves
Parent coaching sessions focus on helping parents:
- Think through specific situations or patterns that feel difficult at home
- Reflect on responses and consider alternative ways of approaching challenges
- Apply calm-first principles and fair boundaries in everyday family life
- Clarify next steps using the frameworks discussed in the book
The emphasis is on understanding, reflection, and practical application, rather than diagnosis or treatment.
How Coaching Differs From Therapy:
It is important to be clear about the nature of this service.
Psychological therapy focuses on the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health concerns.
Parent coaching, as offered here, is not a psychology or mental health service. It does not involve diagnosis, treatment planning, or the provision of therapy.
Instead, coaching provides structured, educational support to help parents work with the ideas presented in The Well-Behaved Teenager (and Other Myths) in a way that suits their own family context.
Session Format
Parent coaching sessions are delivered via Zoom and are offered in short blocks, typically consisting of three or four sessions.
This structure allows families to focus on a clearly defined area of concern and to reflect between sessions, rather than engaging in open-ended or ongoing treatment.
Sessions are:
- Non-Medicare
- Non-psychology
- Not eligible for private health rebates
Who This Support May Suit
Parent coaching may be helpful for families who:
- Have read (or are reading) The Well-Behaved Teenager (and Other Myths)
- Would like support thinking through how the book’s principles apply to their situation
- Are seeking guidance around calm leadership, boundaries, and communication
- Are not seeking psychological assessment or treatment
If a family’s needs are more appropriately addressed through psychological therapy or other services, this will be discussed.
